According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Medicare benefits can be used to help cover the cost of vaccinations recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).

The cost of vaccinations prior to traveling

Medicare coverage for vaccinations prior to travel to certain countries is provided through Medicare Part D, the prescription drug benefit. In most cases, Medicare recipients must meet an annual deductible to use Medicare Part D benefits, but in the case of vaccinations recommended by the ACIP, there is no deductible requirement. Additionally, Medicare recipients do not need to pay a copay in order to receive these shots. You do, however, need to remain current on meeting your monthly Part D premium.

Does Medicare cover medical services while out of the country?

Medicare coverage is only available to recipients in the United States except in special circumstances. An exception may be made if a foreign hospital is closer than your home hospital or if you are in the United States and a foreign hospital is closer to you.

If you are traveling through Canada to and from Alaska and a medical emergency occurs, Medicare benefits will cover treatment at a Canadian facility. Keep in mind that Medicare only covers care in this circumstance if you are merely traveling through Canada, not if you are visiting Canada.
